Fawkner Park

House

Alteration / Addition by

Robert Simeoni Architects

Located at the east end of the prestigious Fawkner Park precinct in South Yarra, this stately grand Victorian Terrace dating back to the mid 1800s, was carefully restored internally and externally.

Robert Simeoni Architects designed a stylish and understated renovation, preserving as much as possible of the original house and comprising 4 metre high brick walls, steel windows and doors, with a modern copper clad first floor addition. The new area is influenced by the glamour of New York 1930s style. Large proportions of scale, high ceilings, detailed steel windows and open fireplace dominate the main focus of the living room and kitchen area in the new addition. An 18th Century French limestone mantel and reclaimed aged oak boards give a low key elegance to the space.

Upstairs, the oversized master bedroom, bathroom and dressing room are reminiscent of a New York luxury hotel suite. Marble mosaic tiles, freestanding bath and detailed joinery are the features here.

Paul Bangay completed the project with his own signature landscaping of timeless elegance and classic symmetry. There is an abundance of hedging and mass planting. More than 30 mature Ficus trees were craned in to create an instant oasis. From the bluestone paved terrace, the garden outlook is tranquil, featuring an understated swimming pool surrounded by lush green lawns.

Everything here was executed to the highest standards to ensure this magnificent property was returned to its former glory.
